Battery Saver Mode

BuddySOS adapts location polling to movement and never holds a wake lock. See the exact update intervals and how battery saver mode is tuned for long days.

Does BuddySOS drain my phone battery?

Battery Saver Mode keeps BuddySOS from draining your phone by adjusting how often it checks your location based on how you are moving. Standing still at a stage costs far less battery than walking across a festival ground, and the app adjusts automatically instead of polling at a fixed rate all day.

Two numbers govern what tracking costs you. In the background the app requests a GPS fix every 30 meters you move or every 45 seconds, whichever lands first. Stand at a stage for twenty minutes and the distance trigger never fires, so you pay for four or five reads instead of hundreds. Uploads run on their own tighter schedule, batching every 20 seconds or 25 meters, which keeps your pin current on everyone else's map without waking the radio for each individual reading.

BuddySOS never holds a wake lock while your screen is off, and that outweighs both of those numbers. A wake lock pins the CPU awake, and it will flatten a phone sitting untouched in a pocket faster than any polling rate. BuddySOS queues location updates and ships them in batches instead.

One thing the app refuses to throttle: an active SOS keeps broadcasting your position at full rate no matter what the battery cadence says. The feature you need under pressure is the last one we would trade for power savings.

Your screen will still outspend all of this. Brightness, video, and camera drain a phone far harder than background location ever does, and no amount of tuning on our side undoes six hours of filming. Bring a power bank to an overnight event. BuddySOS is built so location tracking is not the reason you hit 4pm at 8 percent.
